Loveliest of Afternoons: Jenny Packham, Tea and Great Company!
This past Friday we had the loveliest of afternoons... We hosted a tea party for our friends of the Merrick House committee featuring the spectacular Jenny Packham Bridal collection! This event was actually a warm up to the series “Sundays on the Porch with George” in which we will be participating in February. The series is a group of events throughout the fall and spring, that have themes, history, art, gardening and poetry. The purpose is to bring the community together and give awareness to the Merrick House Museum, gardens and its history.
We’re thrilled we were asked to participate in an event celebrating the marriage of George and Eunice Merrick, founders of Coral Gables. We will be showcasing Jenny Packham’s 2014 bridal collection at the event, as well as enjoy tea, tea sandwiches, a wedding cake contest and a string quartet playing waltzes in the afternoon. Stay tuned for more details as we get closer to the date! But truly, our "warm up" this past Friday was a treat! The lovely ladies of the committee were such great company! We also had the pleasure of having Amelia Gibson, executive director for Jenny Packham - North and South America, join us and tell us all about Jenny's collection. If you haven’t realized, at Chic Parisien we HEART Jenny Packham Bridal! We adore her bridal collections… The details, the silhouettes, the Hollywood glamour, the styling, it’s all so fashion forward and stunning! So in light of our upcoming June 14 - June 15 Jenny Packham Bridal Trunk Show, we were fortunate enough that she answered some questions we asked her! Here is what she had to say:
What is the inspiration for Jenny Packham 2013 Bridal Collection? The collection is inspired by the leading ladies of the golden ages of cinema. It is romantic and feminine and fuses the glamour of old Hollywood icons, Vivien Leigh and Bette Davis, with the vintage style of 1930’s Paris. For the Show, I was inspired by the idea of a 1930’s English country garden wedding with Cecil Beaton taking the photographs. I was inspired by the idea of debutantes of that era. The collection reflects this aristocratic English style with a fresh, floral and contemporary detail.
What is your favorite piece from this collection? I love Azalea. It’s a beautifully soft piece but the volume of the skirt and the addition of the tulle draping on the top lends a real luxuriousness and elegance to the look.
What fabrics have you used for this collection? For 2013 I’ve used a lot of silk chiffon. Unlike previous seasons, I haven’t used so much satin. It’s a lighter aesthetic for 2013- tulles, chiffons and delicate tone-on-tone beading define the collection.
You dress many A-list stars on the red carpet. Is there a connection between the red carpet and bridal wear? I think for many brides their wedding day is their real life red carpet moment! Increasingly Brides want something beautiful and fashion forward and they look to celebrities on the red carpet for inspiration. I often get inspiration from my evening wear creations and adapt them for the bridal market but it’s also important to remember that bridal styles have to have longevity – they can’t be too trend led.
What new trends do you see emerging in Bridal fashion 2013? More Brides are looking for gowns with sleeves which wasn’t the case a few years ago. We’ve seen a demand for high necklines and an overall more demure and sophisticated look.

Gatsby Inspired Wedding!
We can’t wait to watch director Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan, in theaters May 10th. This is where Hollywood glamour, Amazing movie stars, Awesome music and Stunning costumes ALL come together... And Leonardo is also easy on the eyes! Definitely, The Great Gatsby has been one of the most popular bridal trends we’ve seen this year. Inspired Beyond Belief: Liancarlo Trunk Show!
We're beyond thrilled! Off the heels of Bridal Market, this weekend we have the amazing Liancarlo Trunk Show! This collection is absolutely AMAZING! It's designed for a modern day princess... Gorgeous silhouettes, exquisite fabrics and the most stunning details we've seen in a while. But as usual images speak louder than words. So not only are we showcasing pics of some of our fave gowns, including some beautiful details we've spotted, but also, we're featuring a short film where Liancarlo designer, Carlos Ramirez, tells us about his inspiration! The film is absolutely lovely! Every bride-to-be looking for a gown must see it!

Bridal Market: Spring 2014 Recap! (Part 1)
How was your weekend? We hope it was as great as ours. As many of you know, we've been in NYC attending Bridal Market. This is the official event where all the top bridal fashion designers showcase their latest collections! We have been witnessing Spring 2014 collections unveil and sashay down the runways! So far the collections this year have been absolutely AMAZING! We have seen everything from exquisite detailed lace, to minimalistic modern couture styles, to Great Gatsby inspirations, to dramatic gowns fit for a queen. What we've loved most is how everything is absolutely BREATHTAKING, one gasp after another! Happy Friday & Would You Dare?
Yay Friday! Every once in a while we like to shake things up and get out of our comfort zone. So we’ve designated this weekend as an offbeat weekend and we’re going to do something a bit off the beaten path. We’ve been throwing around ideas – maybe canoeing? Maybe going to a new restaurant and having our waiter order for us? Maybe facing our biggest fear and skydiving? Not sure what we’ll do (probably not skydiving, ha!) but it'll hopefully, turn out to be a fun, shake things up kind of weekend!
